We believe the best dentistry is the kind no one even notices. That’s why we use the latest techniques and materials to ensure that our replacement fillings and dental crowns look like your natural teeth.
What is a dental crown?
Crowns cover an existing tooth or can be attached to an implant. They completely cover and encircle a tooth to provide structural support and aesthetic appearance to a weakened or misshaped tooth. When there is extensive damage to a tooth, modern all ceramic, or porcelain bonded to gold crowns can be fabricated to make a tooth look as good as new and extremely natural in appearance. Crowns are designed to be a long lasting restoration. Dr. Frey is extremely selective in the dental labs and materials he uses to make his crowns as he expects them to last twenty or thirty years which is as close to permanent for dental work.
Crowns provide strong defense against nerve damage
Crowns offer a reliable and long term solution for teeth that have broken as a result of an accident, disease, or extensive wear from conditions such as teeth grinding and clenching. They are also recommended for a tooth that has had a root canal, as these teeth are much more susceptible to breaking. People who have unexplained chewing pains, will often have a hairline crack in a tooth, usually as a result of a large existing filling. Left untreated, these cracks can eventually extend to the nerve of the tooth and require root canal treatment. Covering the tooth with a crown most often relieves their symptoms and can prevent a future need for a root canal.
A method for cosmetic dental treatment
Crowns often play a prominent role in cosmetic treatments. Crowns can provide an aesthetic solution for teeth that are misshaped, badly discolored, highly worn, or are out of an ideal position. Old, discolored crowns with grey lines at the gum line, can be replaced with strong, metal free, tooth colored, all porcelain crowns. The advance of new dental porcelains and techniques make creating a beautiful, natural appearing smile a reality that can be a life changing experience. Let us help you achieve the smile you've always wanted.
The crown fitting process
Fitting a crown will take two appointments to complete. The process starts shaping the tooth for the crown and removing any decay. We will take a mold of the prepared tooth for our dental lab and place a tooth colored plastic temporary crown. Before your next visit, our dental lab will craft a crown for the best possible fit and most natural look. When you come in for your final appointment, we will remove the temporary crown and cement your new crown into place. You will go home with a beautiful looking tooth.
